2011 Winner of the Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research

Dr. Kasuga will be awarded a Certificate of Honor, US$150,000 and a Japanese objet d’art at the award ceremony on February 28, 2012.

The Selection Committee highly recognized his extensive and groundbreaking contributions over many years to our current understanding of insulin action. Moreover, his work has provided the molecular basis for the understanding of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Masato Kasuga was therefore selected a Prize winner of this year.

The Prize was inaugurated in 2008 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Manpei Suzuki Diabetes Foundation, honoring those who have enlightened researchers in the field of diabetes around the world with their original and excellent scientific achievement.

The Foundation hopes thus to contribute in advancing diabetes research with this yearly prize, enabling greater interchanges of ideas to fight this most prevalent and dreadful disease.
